What is prolapse?
Prolapse, also known as pelvic organ descent, is the abnormal descent or displacement of one or more organs (bladder, uterus, rectum) into or through the vagina.
This condition is common, especially in women after childbirth, menopause or when the pelvic floor is weak.
What are the symptoms of prolapse?
- Sensation of weight or pressure in the lower abdomen or vagina,Sensation of weight or pressure in the lower abdomen or vagina,
- Visible or palpable vaginal lump or mass,
- Urinary difficulties (leaks, frequent urination, incomplete emptying),
- Transit disorders (constipation, difficulty passing stools),
- Pain or discomfort during intercourse,
- Sometimes a feeling of inadequacy or discomfort when walking.
What are the main causes?
1️⃣ Weakening of pelvic floor muscles and ligaments,
2️⃣ Multiple or difficult pregnancies and births,
3️⃣ Menopause and hormone decline,
4️⃣ Repeated exertion (physical work, chronic constipation, coughing),
5️⃣ Genetic or constitutional factors.
