Hydrodistension is a technique used in the treatment of certain functional bladder disorders, particularly in the context of painful bladder syndrome (or interstitial cystitis)<\/strong> .<\/p>

Hydrodistension may be recommended when urinary problems lead to:<\/p>

\u2714 disabling pollakiuria<\/strong> (frequent need to urinate),<\/p>

\u2714 chronic bladder pain<\/strong>,<\/p>

\u2714 mictional urgency<\/strong> without sufficient improvement by drug or conservative treatments.<\/p>

Origin<\/strong>
This is a chronic bladder disorder, without an infectious cause or lesion visible on imaging or standard cystoscopy, characterized by:<\/p>

Pelvic pain<\/strong>
Sensation of pressure or discomfort in the bladder<\/strong>
High urinary frequency<\/strong> , often during the day and night<\/p>

This syndrome is complex and multifactorial<\/strong>, often associated with other pelvic disorders (endometriosis, pelvi-perineal pain, etc.).<\/p>

Symptoms<\/strong><\/p>

Bladder pain or burning<\/strong> that increases as the bladder fills
Partial relief after urination<\/strong>
Frequent urge to urinate<\/strong> , sometimes every 30 to 60 minutes
Quality of life severely impaired<\/strong><\/p>

Hydrodistension offered<\/strong><\/p>

Hydrodistension involves filling the bladder in a controlled manner<\/strong> under anesthesia, in order to assess its capacity, behavior and to \u201creset\u201d pain receptors.<\/p>

\u2714 Performed under general<\/strong> or spinal<\/strong> anesthesia
\u2714 Fill the bladder<\/strong> with saline solution for a few minutes under moderate pressure
\u2714 Observation of the bladder wall<\/strong> : searching for lesions or bleeding characteristic of cystoscopy
\u2714 Sometimes associated with a medicated instillation<\/strong> after filling
