When should a cystostomy be considered?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Cystostomy is a surgical procedure involving the creation of a temporary or permanent opening in the bladder to ensure drainage outside the natural route. This technique is used in many situations where normal evacuation of urine is impossible or contraindicated. <\/p>

Cystostomy is indicated in particular in cases of :<\/p>

\u2714 Severe urethral obstruction<\/strong> (tumors, strictures, trauma) preventing normal urine flow,<\/p>

\u2714 Significant bladder dysfunction<\/strong> with inability to urinate spontaneously,<\/p>

\u2714 Recurrent urinary tract infections<\/strong> requiring prolonged drainage,<\/p>

\u2714 Preparation for or following complex pelvic or urological surgery<\/strong> ,<\/p>

Objectives of cystostomy<\/h3>

– Ensure effective, safe bladder drainage,
– Prevent or treat complications associated with urinary retention,
– Improve patient comfort and quality of life,
– Facilitate management of complex situations.<\/p>

Surgical technique<\/h3>

Cystostomy can be performed using different methods, depending on the clinical context:<\/p>

– Percutaneous cystostomy<\/strong> (under radiological or ultrasound control): minimally invasive method, often used in emergency or outpatient care.
– Surgical cystostomy<\/strong>: incision in the lower abdomen to expose the bladder and place a drain (catheter or catheter).<\/p>

The procedure is performed under local, locoregional or general anesthesia, depending on the situation.
A catheter is placed through the abdominal wall into the bladder to ensure continuous drainage.<\/p>

Post-operative care<\/h3>

– Check that the drain and skin site are working properly,
– Moderate risk of local infection (can be prevented by antibiotics),
– Management of the catheter: regular changes and local care,
– Possibility of returning home with appropriate equipment and medical follow-up.<\/p>
